Brentford manager Thomas Frank has explained why the loan signing of defender Michael Kayode from Fiorentina is important for his side.
Kayode, born in Italy to Nigerian parents, arrived in Brentford on an initial six-month loan, with the West London club holding a reported £13.5 million purchase option that can be activated in the summer.
Frank expressed his delight that the club was able to secure the 20-year-old Italy youth international’s signature so soon after being regarded as the best young player in Italy.
“I’m very happy that we managed to sign him, to give us a little bit more depth in the full-back positions,” Frank told Vavel.
“He’s very talented, a fantastic physical package, good ability to keep going forward, [and] very good defensively.
“Of course, he’s young and needs to be developed but he hasn’t played as much this season, but last season he played, more or less, a full season for Fiorentina in Serie A – [he is] a very good signing.”
Before his loan move Kayode had played in five Serie A matches for Fiorentina this season.
