West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Nottingham Forest’s Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Hammers are in desperate need of a new striker after being left light on options no thanks to recent injuries.
Star forward Michael Antonio is sidelined for an extended period after he fractured his leg in a road traffic accident in December, while Niclas Fullkrug is out for months due to a hamstring injury.
With the Hammers looking for reinforcements, The Sun journalist Jack Rosser in a post on his X handle dislcosed that the London club are have expressed interest in Awoniyi.
“West Ham are interested in Nottingham Forest’s Tawio Awoniyi,” Rosser said.
“Initial approach was over a loan, but a permanent has been discussed. However, Forest asking price of around £20m would have to come down for that to happen.”
Super Eagles striker Awoniyi has struggled for form this season due to persistent injuries.
The former Liverpool striker has scored just one goal in 15 appearances in the Premier League this season which was in Forest’s 3-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 6.
His best season for Forest in the English top flight was in the 2022-2023 campaign when he scored 10 goals in 27 games, which helped the club avoid relegation.
