Zimbabwe head coach Michael Nees has warned their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying Group C opponents that the Warriors are still in the race.
After four matches, the Warriors are bottom of Group C on two points. Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic each have seven points and are first, second and third respectively.
Lesotho are in thecfourth position with five points while Nigeria’s Super Eagles are fifth with three points.
The Warriors will be back in action in the qualifiers on March 17 with a home game against Benin Republic and as guests of the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo a week later.
When Zimbabwe hosted the Super Eagles in the first leg on matchday 2 of the qualifiers in November 2023, the match ended 1-1.
Speaking in an interview on Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Online TV, Nees posited that nothing has been decided in the group.
“We are not out yet we need to bring performance and stay in the race,” the 57-year-old German said.
“We have to catch up, everybody can see the table, two points, minus four goals difference but the group is not yet decided we still have six games to go, 18 points to get.
“For us it’s important we have a good restart in March. We want to do everything possible and say we tried in our powers so let’s see how things go.”
Zimbabwe will go into the qualifiers in March on the back of three defeats and one draw in their last four fixtures.
