Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu has declared his interest to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles despite representing Germany at youth level.
Agu was born in Osnabruck, Germany to a Nigerian father and a German mother.
The 25-year-old full-back featured for Germany’s Under-21s twice in 2019, but has not received a senior call-up since then.
Speaking in an interview on OmaSport TV, Agu revealed he had discussed with club teammate Justin Njinmah about the possibility of playing for Nigeria.
Just like Agu, 24-year-old Njinmah was born in Hamburg, Germany and is of Nigerian descent.
“I used to watch the Super Eagles as a kid, of course (Austin) Okocha and other players, I always enjoyed watching them,” Agu said. “I love the Nigerian jerseys the most, more than any other jerseys in the world. So the Super Eagles is like a dream.
“To play on the national level was always a dream of mine and I kind of already made half of the decision already because I played for the German U-21 and I want to keep it open.
“I’ve talked a lot with Justin Njinmah about playing for the national team and we think it would be a dream come true to play for Nigeria which will make our fathers smile to represent your roots.
“Sometimes when I check snapchat I see the vibes among the Super Eagles players, which is something I don’t see in Europe that much. From what I see I like it a lot. So, I will be open to play for Nigeria, 100 percent, I don’t know how fast it goes but I will definitely be happy if I get a call.”
Agu has 14 appearances and has scored two goals for Werder Bremen this season.
