Gent defender Jordan Torunarigha has been called up to replace the injured Nathan Tella for the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
The Super Eagles visit Rwanda next Friday and host Zimbabwe four days later in Uyo as the three-time African champions seek to get their qualifying campaign back on track.
“Camp Update: Joshua Torunarigha has been called up to replace injured Nathan Tella. We wish Nathan quick recovery,” the Super Eagles announced on social media on Thursday.
Both Tella and Torunarigha were included in the 39-man provisional squad before the latter was dropped after the list was reduced to 23.
Torunarigha has just one cap for the Super Eagles, which was in a 3-2 win against Mozambique in a friendly in October 2023.
The 27-year-old former Germany youth international has one assist in 22 league appearances for Gent this season.
Tella was was benched for Bayer Leverkusen in their 2-0 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League second leg round of 16 encounter.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will open camp in Kigali on Sunday.
The Eagles are fifth in qualifying Group C with just three points from four matches.
