Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has both praised and had a sly dig at Victor Osimhen, suggesting that the Super Eagles striker is worth tons of money despite his ‘diving’.
Osimhen and Mourinho were both in Italy last season, when the Nigerian star was still in the good books of Napoli, and the former Chelsea coach in charge of AS Roma.
However, circumstances have brought them to Turkey, with Osimhen at Galatasaray on loan and Mourinho their Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce’s manager.
Osimhen and Mourinho are very familiar with each other. The Portuguese boss accused the Nigerian two seasons ago of ‘diving’, after he scored a spectacular goal at the Stadio Olympico, during Napoli’s fairytale run to the Serie A title.
With both of them set to be again on the opposing sides in the Super Lig this campaign, Mourinho said he would spend big on the 25-year-old, if he manages a big-spending club.
“Victor Osimhen is a fantastic player. If I were in a club that can spend €70 million to €75 million euros, I would buy him,” Fanatik quoted the coach as saying on Wednesday, per Area Napoli.
“I have no problems with Victor, I have a good relationship with him, even if he throws himself on the ground a lot.
“I even told him these exact words: ‘Look, you are one of the best players in Africa together with Salah. Before there were Drogba, Eto’o, Weah. You can’t always throw yourself so much.”
