Liverpool have been eliminated from this season’s UEFA Champions League after losing to Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 on penalties on Tuesday night.
PSG secured a 1-0 win at Anfield, thanks to Ousmane Dembele 12th minute strike in the round of 16 second leg clash, to bring the aggregate score to 1-1.
After both teams failed to find the winner, the game went to penalties shootout with the Ligue 1 champions converting all four of theirs.
Liverpool’s attention will now be on the English Premier League, where they are 15 points clear at the top of the table.
Arne Slot’s men will also hope to defend the Carabao Cup when they face Newcastle in this season’s final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
In Germany also on Tuesday night, goals from Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies earned Bayern Munich a 2-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bavarians progressed into the quarter-finals 5-0 on aggregate having beaten their Bundesliga rivals 3-0 in the first leg last week.
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface came off the bench for Leverkusen in the 65th minute, while his international teammate Nathan Tella was an unused substitute.
In other results, Inter Milan beat Feyenoord 2-1 at San Siro to advance 4-1 on aggregate while Barcelona overcame Benfica 3-1 and went on to the next round on an aggregate score of 4-1.
