The Falconets tasted defeat for the fist time at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in the early hours of Thursday when they were beaten 3-1 by Germany.
The Nigerian ladies had won their opening match three days previously, beating South Korea 1-0, but the Germans were too strong for them.
Two goals in the final 30 minutes did the damage as Germany took all three points in the Group D clash at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota.
The Falconets spurned two good opportunities before Germany took the lead in the 17th minute through Alara Sehitler.
Nigeria were level five minutes after the break, when Chiamaka Okuchukwu took advantage of a mix-up in the German defence to slot into an open net.
Germany then restored their lead in the 61st minute, with Sofie Zdebel netting off a fine cross.
The Falconets were battling to equalise again, but it was Germany who scored the back-breaking goal in stoppage time with Sarah Ernst heading home.
The Falconets can still secure passage into the round of 16 if they avoid defeat to Venezuela on Saturday night/Sunday morning.
