Nigeria U-19 men’s cricket team has resumed first phase camping in Abuja ahead of the 2026 Africa Division 1 World Cup qualifiers to be hosted in the country in March, the Nigeria Cricket Federation has announced.
Nigeria will host five other African teams for the Division 1 qualifiers.
The teams that will join Nigeria in the final qualifiers are Kenya, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Uganda.
To get to this stage, the Nigeria U-19 team finished third at the Africa Division 2 tournament which took place in Tanzania in 2024.
Drawn in Group B with Tanzania, Mozambique and Ghana, Nigeria finished second and qualified for the semi-finals where they lost to Sierra Leone.
Tanzania emerged winners of the Africa Division 2 tournament after defeating Sierra Leone in the final.
The 2026 U-19 Cricket World Cup will be hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Teams who have so far booked their places for the World Cup include defending champions Australia, Bangladesh, England and India
Others are Ireland, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies.
