Two players from Edo Queens, Cordelia Odoma and Emem Essien, have been included in the Best XI of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League group stage.
The Nigerian representatives, featuring in the competition for the first time, have advanced to the semi-finals after garnering seven points from three group matches, including a stunning 2-1 win over two-time champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
In the best 11 put together by the Confederation of African Football’s Technical Study Group, AS FAR of host country Morocco have four players, with two players each from Edo Queens and FC Maser.
Mamelodi Sundowns, University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Edo Queens’ semi-final opponents TP Mazembe have one player each in the 11.
AS FAR shot-stopper Khadija ER-Rmichi, with just one concession in the group stage, earns the goalkeeper position.
AS FAR’s Nouhaila Benzina, alongside Shadia Nankya of FC Masar, make up the central defence pairing, while Edo Queens’ Odoma and Karabo Dhlamini of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies complete the back four as full-backs.
UWC’s Amogelang Motau anchors the midfield, just behind the attacking pair of AS FAR’s Sanaa Mssoudy and Sandrine Niyonkuru of FC Masar.
The attacking trio is led by Edo Queens’ lethal Essien, who is joined by AS FAR teenager Doha El Madani as well as Lacho Marta of TP Mazembe.
The tournament reaches the semi-finals on Tuesday, when Edo Queens take on TP Mazembe, before former champions AS FAR take on FC Masar.
