President Bola Tinubu has scrapped the Ministry of Sports Development and replaced it with the National Sports Commission (NSC).
The NSC will henceforth take over the responsibilities previously handled by the
ministry.
The decision was taken at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday chaired by the President.
The development was announced by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday.
“President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development,” Onanuga wrote.
“There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission , North East Development Commission.
“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.”
Before the Tinubu administration, which began in May 2023, sports was overseen by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The National Sports Commission is making a comeback after being previously scrapped multiple times.
