The Super Falcons of Nigeria have kept their 36th position in the latest FIFA women’s world ranking released on Thursday.
The nine-time African champions have been in the 36th spot since March 2024, retaining the same position in June, August and December.
This is the first ranking of 2025, and the Super Falcons have clung to that same spot, even keeping their 1622 points.
They also remain the top-ranked team in Africa, followed by Women’s Africa Cup of Nations holders South Africa (54th in the world), Morocco (60th), Zambia (64th) and Ghana (65th).
Nigeria’s 2024 WAFCON (to be held in July 2025) group opponents are further down the ladder, with Algeria 83rd in the world, Tunisia 89th and Botswana 153rd.
Globally, the United States of America are No.1, trailed by world champions Spain, Germany, England and Japan.
Sweden, Canada, Brazil, North Korea and the Netherlands complete the world’s top 10.
“The latest instalment of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking™ marks a number of milestones,” FIFA noted.
“The first release of 2025 features more teams than ever before: 196. Djibouti make their debut, entering the global pecking order in 195th place. This is just one of the ranking-related storylines served up the last couple of months, during which 127 internationals have been contested, including African qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.”
