Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Black Stars of Ghana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago will battle for the 2025 Unity Cup in London, England in May.
The four-nation tournament was confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday.
Dubbed “The Best in the West – the Afro Classico Contest,” the first semi-final will be held on Tuesday, May 27 between Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica.
The Super Eagles will face Ghana’s Black Stars the following day, and the third place and final matches will be played on May 31.
Rotimi Pedro of AfroSport, the organisers of the event, said: “I am proud to announce that the Unity Cup is back. It has been a long road to revive this important community event, and we are happy that fans of African and Caribbean football will get to see international football of the highest calibre at the Unity Cup 2025.”
Andy Howes, Co-Director of AfroSport, added: “The Unity Cup is a tournament that really does evoke the often-used phrase ‘an event that goes beyond sport.’ But with the array of elite stars and the profile of the teams involved, this event is not only important in terms of its cultural significance but also reflects the growing commercial importance of African and Caribbean football, as well as the growing demographic of black football fans within English football.”
The last time the Super Eagles faced Ghana was in an international friendly match in March 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Goals from Cyriel Dessers (38th minute penalty) and Ademola Lookman (84th minute) secured a 2-1 win for the Super Eagles.
Jordan Ayew got Ghana’s goal from the penalty spot in the 95th minute.
There have been six previous encounters between the Super Eagles and Jamaica all being friendly games.
The three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions have secured two wins, three draws and one defeat against the Reggae Boys.
As for Trinidad and Tobago, the Super Eagles have never clashed with the Caribbean nation.
