Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has said the team must do everything possible to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.
The three-time African champions are set to face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in back-to-back fixtures in the 2025 AFCON qualification series.
The Super Eagles, who are on top of Group D on four points from two games, will host bottom side Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday, with the return leg scheduled for Tuesday in Benina, Benghazi.
During a chat with reporters on Thursday at the team’s camp, Troost-Ekong said the players are fully focused ahead of the clash.
“We want to be at the AFCON next year. We cannot afford to miss the tournament in Morocco. We are working hard, players, coaches, officials, everyone and we will achieve our dream,” he said.
The Saudi Arabia-based centre-back also dismissed the possibility of a Libya upset.
“No, no, no, there won’t be any chance of them pulling us down. We’ll win, we’ll get the three points, but we know it will be difficult against the Libyans,” he added.
The central defender further said he and his teammates want to maintain their winning form.
“We want to continue what we did before in the opening two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. If you ask me, I will tell you that we are on the right path,” he said.
