Super Falcons of Nigeria head coach, Randy Waldrum, has leff the position.
Waldrum cited his wife’s health condition as the reason for his decision to leave the women’s national team.
“It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that,” the American coach wrote in a letter he purportedly sent to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which was in circulation on social media on Thursday night.
“After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons.

“This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”
The head coach of University of Pittsburgh Panthers women’s soccer team in the United States of America, a job he combined with coaching the Falcons, was appointed by the NFF in 2020.
The 67-year-old led the team to the round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where the team reached the round of 16.
His last assignment was at this year’s Paris Olympic Games in France. The Falcons qualified for the competiton after 16 years but failed to advance from their group, as they lost all their three matches.
In the resignation letter, Waldrum mentioned his recent record at the two global tournaments and listed a bunch of people who played important roles in his technical crew, thanking them for their support during his sometimes turbulent tenure, during which he was sacked and recalled.
The NFF is yet to acknowledge the resignation.
