Esther Nworgu has earned Team Nigeria’s second medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, bagging silver in the women’s up to 41kg para-powerlifting event.
Nworgu’s silver follows the historic badminton bronze Eniola Mariam Bolaji won on Monday.
She set two new Paralympic records with lifts of 112kg and 118kg in her final two attempts.
Still, China’s Zhe Cui finished ahead of her with a 119kg effort, breaking the Nigerian’s new records.
The Paralympics outing is already a big improvement on Nigeria’s performance at the Olympics in Paris, where the country won no medal.
The country won 10 medals at the last Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021 with four being gold medals, and could still surpass that total with more events on the way.
