Napoli director Giovanni Manna has said the Italian club are hoping for a swift resolution to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s future at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer.
Osimhen will almost certainly leave the Serie A club after last summer’s transfer issues.
The Nigeria international was in talks to join Chelsea and Napoli even agreed a deal with Saudi Arabia side Al Ahli before changing their asking price.
However, after Al Ahli walked away from the deal, Chelsea were unable to agree terms with the striker, who was then left out of Napoli’s squad for the Serie A campaign and stripped of his number, before eventually joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan.
“Victor is always going to be a hotly-debated topic and not just on the transfer market,” Manna told Sky Sport Italia.
“He is an appetising player for clubs, he has a clause and everyone knows this, we are working to find a solution as quickly as possible, so that we can avoid what happened last year.”
Napoli also sold Georgian winger Khivcha Kvaratskhelia in January and the club is keen to avoid a repeat of his departure, along with another Osimhen saga.
“There are certainly regrets, as it is never easy to lose an important player mid-season,” Manna said.
“We talked about it a lot, but in my view the situation was also twisted. What it leaves me with is the intention to always be ready to deal with things we cannot control, but we are certain that we did the right thing there.”
