Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has likened Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to ex-Chelsea centre forward Diego Costa.
Chelsea are reportedly in search of a proven striker, with Nicolas Jackson considered not good enough to take the club to the next level.
The Senegal international, currently out injured, has nine goals and five assists in 23 English Premier League matches this season.
Nigeria international Osimhen, who has been linked with several high-profile moves, has been in brilliant form for Galatasaray this season, the 26-year-old registering 26 goals and five assists in 30 appearances in all competitions.
“My concerns with Victor Osimhen would be with his personality and character, it can be a great thing for the team (Chelsea) if it fits in, but it can also be difficult in other teams,” Petit, a 1998 FIFA World Cup winner with France, who also featured for Chelsea, told YaySweepstakes.com.
“We all know his qualities and what he can bring to the team, he can score goals and bring character, he reminds me of Diego Costa in that sense, he is a fighter.
“In terms of personality and character it can be a lot, but he is very versatile, but there might just be better options on the market this summer.”
Meanwhile, Osimhen will hope to replicate his club form when the Super Eagles take on Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday and Tuesday respectively.
The 2023 African Player of the Year has not made any appearance in the qualifiers, after missing the Super Eagles’ four previous fixtures due to injuries.
