Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen says he had been longing to score a goal from an overhead kick for years.
Osimhen scored a stunning goal in Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory against Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig over the weekend, on his return from injury.
The 25-year-old had been out with a muscle problem he picked up in the club’s 3-3 draw with Kasimpasa in the league on September 28. But he came on to replace Mauro Icardi in the 78th minute of the win to put the cherry on the icing for his team.
“I wanted to do it the first time and then the guy came in front of me. If I did it, if I touched him, it would be a free kick so I let it (ball) bounce,” the Nigeria international<span;> said in a video posted by Galatasaray to TikTok.
“I’ve been wanting to score this type of goal for a long time. It came at the right time. It is ballistic.”
The reigning African Player of the Year has also tipped the goal for the Puskas Award.
“Of course it could be. It was an incredible goal. It’s a classy goal, why not, it could be. The goal was an incredible one”, he said..
Osimhen, who is on loan from Napoli, has netted three goals and registered four assists in five matches for the league champions.
Galatasaray extended their lead at the top of the table with the win to five points after nine matches.
