Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that he sustained a minor knock in Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday.
Osimhen opened his goal account for Galatasaray in the game by bagging a brace in the first half. The Nigeria international scored his first of the two goals after just 20 minutes at the RAMS Park and completed his double eight minutes later.
However, he was replaced in the 46th minute by former Napoli teammate, Dries Mertens.
“I do not have a serious injury. I felt a little discomfort. I thought I should tell my coach. If I reduced the team, it would be bad. I did not want my other friends’ performance to decrease. I told Mauro and the coach. That is why I left the game,” he told the club’s website after the game.
Galatasaray were 3-0 up before allowing Kasimpasa back into the game. The 25-year-old is, however, delighted to have ended the wait for his first goal for the club.
“We are unhappy as a team. We deserved three points. Football is like that sometimes,” he added.
“You can play the way you deserve and not win. I am happy to score two goals. We are all unhappy because of the draw. We need to work hard and focus on winning the next match.
“I was happy with my own performance but we will work harder and try to do better in the upcoming matches.”
The Nigeria international paired Mauro Icardi in the attack for the first time in the league and both of them got on the scoresheet, with the Argentine scoring the third goal of the match.
“We have a good relationship with Mauro. He is a leader. He protects us all. He is also a big brother to me,” Osimhen noted.
“It is a great feeling for me to play next to him. Everyone must see that. We celebrate our goals together. We are unhappy with today’s result but we will all do more.
“We will do better in the upcoming matches. It is a privilege to play with him.”
