Victor Osimhen continued his stellar campaign on loan at Galatasaray on Wednesday night by scoring twice to lead the club to Turkish Cup triumph.
The Super Eagles striker came alive in the second half and struck twice as Galatasaray defeated Trabzonspor 3-0 in the final to clinch a record-extending 19th Turkish Cup.
Baris Yilmaz got Galatasaray off to a quick start, opening the scoring in the fifth minute against opponents they defeated 2-0 just four days ago in the Turkish Super Lig.
Osimhen doubled Galatasaray’s advantage one minute into the second period and sealed the victory in the 63rd minute by finishing off a quick counter-attack.
With his brace, Osimhen has broken the record for the most goals scored by a foreign player in a season in Turkish football history.
The Nigeria international has now netted 35 goals in all competitions in 39 appearances this term, one more than Mario Jardel’s 34 goals in the 2000/2001 campaign, which was the previous record.
Osimhen, on loan from Napoli for the season, is also currently the leading scorer in the Turkish Super Lig with 24 goals from 28 matches as Galatasaray are on course for the league and Cup double.
They are eight points clear of second-placed Fenerbahce with only three rounds of matches to wrap up the league campaign.
