Rivers United continued to push for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title after edging out Ikorodu City 1-0 in a week 30 clash in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Boluwaji Sholumade struck in stoppage time to secure the three points and a third consecutive victory for Finidi George’s Rivers United.
With the win, the Pride of Rivers kept their second spot in the league table and cut Remo Stars’ lead to five points, while Ikorodu City are sixth.
Remo Stars were not in action at the weekend after their fixture away to Lobi Stars was postponed.
In Owerri, Abia Warriors made it back-to-back wins by beating struggling Heartland 1-0, with Adejoh Ojonugwa netting the only goal nine minutes from time.
Heartland’s winless run has now stretched to six matches (four defeats and two draws).
Abia Warriors currently occupy the third spot, with Heartland in the relegation zone in 17th place.
Also on Sunday in Aba, Enyimba drew 1-1 draw with Bayelsa United, leaving the People’s Elephant in eighth place, while the visitors are 15th.
In the other week 30 encounters, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) defeated Niger Tornadoes 3-1, Katsina United thrashed El Kanemi Warriors 3-0, and Akwa United beat Kwara United 2-0 away.
