Rivers United ended their winless run by beating Lobi Stars 1-0 in their matchday 23 clash in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Finidi George’s side had to fight hard to secure the win after losing two and drawing two of their last four matches heading into Sunday’s encounter.
For Lobi, their poor run continues as they have now failed to win any of their last six games, recording four defeats and two draws.
Timothy Zechariah netted the winner in the 88th minute to give the Port Harcourt side the three points.
The victory means Rivers United are in the third position in the table, 10 points behind leaders Remo Stars, while Lobi Stars are bottom.
At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo also on Sunday, Enyimba fell to a 2-1 loss to Akwa United.
The People’s Elephant had ended a run of five consecutive matches without a win following their 1-0 triumph at Lobi Stars.
But they could not replicate the feat against Lobi as Jacob Ogunleye and Uche Sabastine scored to help Akwa United seal the win. Issah Mohammed got Enyimba’s goal on 39 minutes.
