Remo Stars extended their lead at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a 2-0 victory over Enyimba in a week 31 clash in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State on Thursday.
The win means Remo Stars, who have 60 points and have played a game fewer, are now eight points clear of second-placed Rivers United in the table.
While it is now back-to-back wins for Remo Stars in the pursuit of their first title, Enyimba are winless in their last three fixtures and are ninth.
Olamilekan Adedayo opened the scoring for Remo Stars in the 28th minute and Samson Olasupo added the second 24 minutes after the break.
In Enugu, Rangers’ push for a continental ticket suffered a setback following a 1-0 home defeat to Plateau United.
Suleiman Mojereola’s 73rd minute strike secured the three points for a Plateau United side who have recorded three wins in four matches.
It is a second defeat in a row for the Flying Antelopes who occupy fifth place, while Plateau United are 11th.
In Maiduguri, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with El Kanemi Warriors.
Gideon Monday gave 3SC the lead in the 35th minute and Sadiq Ibrahim added the second goal in first-half added time.
Daniel Barnabas pulled a goal back for El Kanemi four minutes into the second half and Suleiman Alabi completed the comeback nine minutes from time.
The Oluyole Warriors are in fourth spot, with El Kanemi 13th.
In another week 31 fixture on Thursday, Akwa United defeated Niger Tornadoes 2-0 while the encounter between Ikorodu City and Katsina United was postponed.
