Remo Stars made it three wins in three matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as they defeated Kano Pillars 2-0 away on Sunday in their matchday 3 clash.
Super Eagles defender, Sodiq Ismail, put Remo Stars in front in the 26th minute at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, and Franck Mawuena doubled their lead on the hour mark as they held on for another three points on the road.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side have also kept three consecutive clean sheets so far this campaign after defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 away and beating 1-0 Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0 in the South-west derby in Ikenne.
The result is the first defeat of the season for Kano Pillars.
Remo Stars, who crashed out of the CAF Champions League this season in the first preliminary round, are top of the NPFL table, overtaking Rivers United.
Niger Tornadoes recorded a 2-1 victory against Plateau United at the Jos Stadium on Sunday for their second win in three matches so far this campaign.
Tornadoes took the lead after 19 minutes through Ifeanyi Okechukwu, and Kufre Ebong made it two in the 92nd minute of the clash. Sam Pam pulled one back for the hosts, but it was too little too late.
Heartland continue to struggle under former Super Eagles star Emmanuel Amuneke this season, as they were forced to a 0-0 draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Sunday by Katsina United.
Heartland are yet to win a game in the league this season despite raised expectations following the arrival of the legendary Amuneke, who has worked as coach with the Golden Eaglets, the Flying Eagles and the Super Eagles.
The draw earned Heartland their first point of the campaign.
In Akure, Sunshine Stars made it two matches without a win as they played out a 0-0 draw against Abia Warriors at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
They lost to Remo Stars in the penultimate league fixture and failed to capitalise on their home advantage on Sunday against an Abia side still searching for their first win of the season.
Newly promoted Ikorodu City earned their first point of the season in a 0-0 encounter in Ilorin against Kwara United.
