Remo Stars recorded their sixth straight win in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after beating Kano Pillars 2-1 in a matchday 23 contest in Ikenne-Remo on Saturday.
The Daniel Ogunmodede-led side are on top of the league table, eight points clear of second-placed Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC).
Sikiru Alimi opened the scoring in the fifth minute for Remo Stars after finishing off a low cross by Seun Ogunribide.
With five minutes left to play in the first half, Ibrahim Abubakar made it 2-0, guiding the ball into the net after the Kano Pillars goalkeeper had parried Alimi’s shot unto his path.
Abba Adams pulled a goal back for Pillars just before half-time to add some spice to the encounter.
Adams has now scored four goals in his last four appearances.
At the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, 3SC defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0 to stay in touch with Remo Stars, especially as the Oluyole Warriors have a game in hand.
Godwin Odibo scored the winner in the 81st minute, leaving Insurance in 15th place, one point clear of the relegation zone.
In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors edged out Nasarawa United 1-0 thanks to Umar Al Amin’s 29th minute strike.
