Remo Stars returned to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Nasarawa United in their Week 6 clash in Ikenne.
The league leaders are back to winning ways after Kwara United ended their run in Ilorin last Sunday, with last season’s top scorer Sikiru Alimi, Stanley Joseph and Super Eagles full-back Ismail Sodiq netting in the second half against the visitors.
Alimi headed home Joseph’s cross in the 51st minute to break the deadlock, and eight minutes later Joseph went from provider to scorer when he doubled his side’s lead.
Sodiq scored Remo Stars’ third goal in the 62nd minute for their fifth win in six matches as well as fourth clean sheet of the season.
Akwa United nuetralised Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa for 90 minutes as they bagged their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Kano Pillars at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Endurance Ebedebiri put Akwa United ahead in first-half stoppage time, while Friday Apollos sealed the win in the 81st minute as the hosts finally ended their winless streak.
Niger Tornadoes and Lobi Stars shared the spoils in Minna on Sunday, with both sides scoring in the second half of the 1-1 draw.
Lobi Stars scored first in the 61st minute through Ossy Martins but the hosts equalised at the death through Emmanuel Olawale.
Kwara United suffered their second loss of the campaign following their 1-0 defeat to Abia Warriors at the Umuahia Stadium.
Sunday Megwo’s strike in the 74th minute earned the home side all the points over the Afonja Warriors, who have a game in hand but are 17th in the table.
Bayelsa United secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Plateau United at the Samson Siasia Sports Stadium in Yenagoa.
Yahaya Ibrahim struck after just four minutes and it was enough to hand coach Ladan Bosso his first win of the season.
It finished 0-0 in Maiduguri between El-Kanemi Warriors and Heartland as the home side continued their unbeaten run this season.
Rivers United maintained their unbeaten run this season with a 0-0 away draw against Katsina United on Sunday.
It is the second time this season Finidi George’s team have failed to score, and the Port Harcourt-based side dropped to second in the table after Remo Stars’ emphatic win over Nasarawa United.
In the top clash of the weekend, Shooting Stars and Enyimba played 0-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Enyimba are third in the table, two points behind leaders Remo Stars, while 3SC are 12th.
