Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders Remo Stars lost 2-1 to Bendel Insurance in Benin City on Saturday, failing to stretch their lead at the top.
A brace from Meyinwa Oritseweyinmi sealed the win for Insurance, while Remo Stars’ goal came late in the game through Arinze Anakwe.
Oritseweyinmi opened the scoring in the second minute and doubled the lead 10 minutes after the break.
Anakwe reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute, but Insurance held on to return to winning ways.
Remo remain on top of the league table on 54 points, with Insurance now in ninth place on 38 points.
Also on Saturday, Rivers United pipped Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Port Harcourt to extend their unbeaten run to four matches, recording two wins and two draws.
Samson Obi netted the winning goal in the 83rd minute, taking second-placed Rivers United to within eight points of Remo Stars, while Tornadoes, with back-to-back defeats now, are 11th.
Meanwhile, bottom side Lobi Stars lost 1-0 at home to Ikorodu City as the newcomers rose to third spot.
While it is three straight defeats for Lobi, Ikorodu City got their second consecutive victory as Shola Adelani emerged the hero with the only goal of the match in the 81st minute.
