Rivers United missed the chance to close the gap on Remo Stars after 1-0 defeat to Enyimba in a week 24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash in Aba on Saturday.
The defeat leaves Rivers United, handled by former Enyimba and Super Eagles head coach Finidi George, in third place, 10 points behind leaders Remo Stars.
For Enyimba, it is a return to winning ways after losing back-to-back games.
Imo Obot scored the only goal four minutes before the end of the first half.
The People’s Elephant are 10th in the league table, well off the title-chasing places.
At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars recorded another win after pipping Abia Warriors 1-0.
Mustapha Umar netted the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute.
In Jos, Plateau United ended their run of three straight fixtures without a win as they overcame El Kanemi Warriors 2-0.
Emmanuel Ihezuo’s 40th minute goal from the penalty spot and Olawale Doyeni’s effort sealed the win for Plateau United.
In other results, Ikorodu City held Nasarawa United to a 0-0 draw away, Kwara United edged out visiting Bayelsa United 1-0, Sunshine Stars beat Akwa United 1-0 and Lobi Stars settled for a 1-1 draw with Katsina United.
