Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has claimed that Leicester City were unlucky to lose to Arsenal at the King Power in Saturday’s English Premier League clash.
A late double (81st and 87th minutes) from substitute Mikel Merino handed Arsenal a 2-0 win against a Leicester side that suffered their third straight defeat.
The defeat left Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men 19th in the table, two points from safety, while Arsenal are four points behind Liverpool, having played a game more than the Reds.
Reflecting on the defeat, Ndidi praised his teammates for their effort against a ‘top team’.
“It was a difficult game, we stayed on till they scored the first goal,” Ndidi told Leicester TV. “It was quite a tough game but we did well. To be honest, we needed to because we were playing against a top team and it’s something we will take the positives to the next one.
“We knew we were still in the game, we were just unlucky we conceded the first goal. We were still in it because we were together, stayed compact.
“They are very good at keeping the ball, positioning and tried to get at us. We just needed to stick together and go on the counter that’s why sometimes when we get the ball we just go forward because we knew their game plan so we just stuck to it.
“We are a bit gutted because we conceded two goals. We should have stayed more in the game. But overall we are pleased with the performance until they scored.
“Everyone knows the position that we are in, so we just go forward to the next game.”
On his return from a hamstring injury after being away since December, Ndidi added: “I feel great, I feel amazing, there are lots of games coming up so I just need to look after myself and keep going.”
