The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has declared that act of age cheating at the 2024 National Youth Games will not be tolerated.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Diana-Mary Nsan, the minister stressed the importance of upholding the integrity of the Games and urged all participating states to adhere strictly to the age requirements.
Emphasising the importance of upholding the integrity of the Games, Enoh called on participating states to embrace the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship.
“As the name of the Games implies, this competition is strictly for the youth,” Enoh said.
“We are committed to providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents in a fair and transparent environment.
“The technical team has been instructed to ensure that only athletes within the age bracket of 15 years and below participate.
“Age cheating undermines the purpose of these Games, and we will take firm measures to prevent it.”
Delta State is hosting this year’s event, with 5,776 athletes from 29 states participating at the Games, which officially began on Wednesday with the opening ceremony in Asaba.
