Super Eagles and Kano Pillars captain Ahmed Musa has called on the Nigerian government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to investigate the death of Abubakar Lawal in Uganda.
Lawal, who played for SC Vipers in the Ugandan top flight died on Monday.
A statement released by Ugandan Police said the 29-year-old former Kano Pillars, Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourists forward died after falling from the third floor of a building, where he had gone to visit a friend.
Initial reports had claimed that Lawal died in a road crash.
In his reaction, Musa said there was something suspicious about Lawal’s death and called on the Nigerian authorities to probe it.
“It is saddened to receive the news of Abubakar Lawal. The news was a shocking one which prompted me to ask further questions and clarification,” Musa wrote on his X account on Tuesday.
“However, we discovered contrary information about his demise. The first one claimed it was an accident, and the second report claimed he fell from a balcony.
“The contradicting reports suggest something suspicious about his demise and I have been in contact with the Nigerian authority and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) calling their attention to this fatal case in Uganda.
“I am appealing to the Nigerian Government and the NFF to investigate the incident and work with the Ugandan government to get justice for Lawal.
“Lawal’s soul deserves a thorough investigation and justice must be served if anyone is found guilty.
“May Allah rest his soul Ameen.”
