Accomplished journalist and the Group Managing Director of Complete Communications Limited, Dr Mumini Alao, has been named as the Chairman of a committee set up to investigate Nigeria’s failure and administrative inefficiency at the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, France.
Sports minister John Enoh inaugurated the seven-member committee on behalf of the federal government on Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Victor Okangbe will serve as the secretary of the committee, with Godwin Enakhena, Aliyu Mohammed, Rakiya Muhammed, Abubakar Ango and Nnene Akudo the other members.
Apart from a poor outing by athletes at the Paris Olympics, where Team Nigeria did not win a single medal, there was a stack of administrative lapses, too.
One of such was the failure to register Favour Ofili in her strongest event, the women’s 200 metres that she qualified for, while another was the lack of a track bicycle for cyclist <span;>Ese Ukpeseraye, who had to borrow from the German team.
At the inauguration of the committee, Enoh said it is necessary to investigate the embarrassing setbacks in order to prevent future occurrences.
He urged the committee to be professional and no be afraid to apportion blame where necessary.
Dr Alao promised that the committee would perform its duty diligently and approach the assignment with commitment.
