Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman scored his 10th Serie A goal of the season on Saturday night but it was not enough as Atalanta lost 3-2 to visiting Napoli.
Lookman, the current African Player of the Year, is just one goal shy of equaling his league tally for the whole of last season.
Atalanta have now gone five consecutive matches without a win, recording three draws and two defeats, while Napoli’s winning run has extended to six games on the bounce.
Atalanta got off to a good start as Mateo Retegui gave them the lead in the 16th minute.
But Matteo Politano (27th minute) and former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay (40th minute) hit back for Napoli to put them 2-1 ahead.
In the 55th minute, Lookman equalised for Atalanta after driving towards the Napoli defence before hitting a low left-foot shot into the bottom corner.
However, Romelu Lukaku got what proved to be the winner in the 78th minute.
The defeat means Atalanta are in third position on 43 points, seven points behind leaders Napoli.
In the other Serie A fixture also on Saturday, Juventus defeated AC Milan 2-0.
Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze was not in action for Milan as he is still out with a thigh injury.
