Ademola Lookman was once again Atalanta’s hero and man of the match as they defeated AC Milan 2-1 on Friday night to rise to the top of the Serie A table.
The Super Eagles forward scored the winning goal three minutes from time after Alvaro Morata had cancelled out Charles De Ketelaere’s opening strike.
Belgium forward De Ketelaere got Atalanta in front in Bergamo in the 12th minute, out-jumping Theo Hernandez at the back post to nod in Marten de Roon’s free-kick against his former club.
Milan equalised 10 minutes later, with Rafael Leao beating the offside trap before setting up Morata for a simple tap-in.
Lookman was lively throughout the encounter and fittingly netted the winner, stealing in at the back post to head home from point-blank range.
The goal is the in-form Nigeria international and African Player of the Year contender’s 10th in Serie A this season in 17 appearances, along with five assists.
In all competitions, the former Everton and RB Leipzig star has 12 goals and five assists in 21 matches.
The victory took Atalanta to two points above second-placed Napoli, who have a game in hand.
It is now nine wins in a row in Serie A for Atalanta, who are also 14 games unbeaten in all competitions.
Lookman’s Nigeria international teammate Samuel Chukwueze was a 90th minute substitute for AC Milan.
