English Championship club Leeds United have made contact with Portuguese giants FC Porto over a move for Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi, according to reports.
The 27-year-old Sanusi, whose contract with Porto will expire in 2027, is reportedly looking to leave the 30-time Primeira Liga champions in search of more playing time.
Leeds, who are currently second in the Championship table and gunning for promotion to the English Premier League, are looking to strengthen their squad for next season and are keen to sign the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations runner-up.
Africafoot reported, citing Gestifute, Sanusi’s agency, that Leeds United are preparing to offer Porto €2 million.
“Contacts began last week, with Leeds reportedly very serious and interested in Sanusi,” Africafoot quoted the Gestifute source.
“They are looking to offer €2 million with a four-year contract on the table. It is now up to Porto to decide whether they are willing to sell him, as the player is keen to move. Initial discussions have been positive, so a move is very likely.”
Sanusi returned to competitive football for Porto in January 2025 after being sidelined since February 2024 due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Since his return from the long-term injury he has struggled for regular playing time, making just three league appearances this season.
Since he joined Porto in 2020, he has won one league title, two Portuguese Cups, one Portuguese League Cup and two Portuguese Super Cups.
Sanusi was named in Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s 39-man provisional squad for last month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe but was dropped from the final squad of 23.
