Athletes representing Lagos State at the ongoing National Youth Games have expressed their target for the competition taking place in Delta State.
The Games were declared open on Thursday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh—with athletes from the state among those who participated in the matchpast.
Chidera Nwokedi, a 10-year-old Judoka, is one of the 270 youngsters set to compete in 34 individual and team sports events from the state.
Nwokedi is confident the quality of training she was exposed to during preparation for the Games will give her the edge to finish with a medal.
Also, Blessing Egbowon, who is a shot-putter, is delighted to represent the Centre of Excellence at the Games.
According to Egbowon, her aim is to raise the bar for her opponents at the Games.
“I want to work harder, push forward and be the best I can,” she said.
Oluwadarasimi Bolade, another Judoka, declared that her aim is to improve her skill and return home with a gold medal.
“I feel so happy and honoured to be part of the athletes representing Lagos at the 2024 National Youth Games,” she added.
Muhammad Uthman, one of the state’s cricket players, is ecstatic about representing Lagos at the competition. He believes the rigorous training sessions will yield a gold medal at the event.
