Ikorodu City recorded their second win in three Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matches and inflicted the first defeat on Lobi Stars under Daniel Amokachi in their matchday 8 fixture on Monday with a 4-2 victory.
Going into the clash, Amokachi was searching for his first win since his appointment, having recorded back-to-back draws.
Salau Yusuf put the hosts into the lead after just two minutes at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Ikorodu City doubled their lead in the 19th minute through Emmanuel Solomon, but the visitors fought back in the first half with two goals in two minutes through Ifeanyi Assurance in added time.
Alade Solomon restored the hosts’ lead in the 56th minute and Rivio Ayemwenre scored the fourth goal two minutes to earn Ikorodu City all three points.
The win moved Ikorodu City out of the relegation zone for the first time this season into 16th place in the table, while Lobi Stars stay bottom.
Rivers United, coached by Finidi George, maintained their unbeaten run this campaign in Minna with a 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes.
Seiyefa Jackson scored the only goal of the game two minutes into the second half at the Bako Stadium as Niger Tornadoes suffered their first home defeat of the season.
With the win, Rivers United regained the top spot in the table after Remo Stars temporarily replaced them on Sunday, following their 1-0 over Bendel Insurance in Ikenne.
Shooting Stars of Ibadan recorded their first win in four matches on Monday, beating Katsina United 1-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
The Oluyole Warriors got some reprieve, with the win over Katsina United their second in eight league matches.
Mustapha Adams struck in the 68th minute to give them their first win since
matchday 4, when they recorded the same scoreline win over Heartland at home. Despite the three points, they are 15th in the table.
Akwa United and Enugu Rangers shared the spoils as their clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo ended 0-0.
Rangers had lost their last two matches and were looking to respond, particular after the 4-3 defeat at home to Kano Pillars in their last fixture before this trip.
The draw leaves the champions eighth in the table, while Akwa United are 18th.
