Alex Iwobi scored twice on Thursday night to inspire Fulham to a 3-1 English Premier League victory over Brighton, but the Super Eagles star was not entirely satisfied.
It was only the second time Iwobi would score a Premier League brace in his whole career, and he has developed a taste for goals.
The win propelled Fulham to sixth in the table, with Iwobi happy to make the key contribution.
“We wanted to get a win on the board after our last game against Spurs. No better place to do it than at our place. I should be getting more goals but it was good to them for the team,” the Nigeria international said in his post-match interview.
“We know Brighton like to play and so do we. I was able to capitalise on the high press.
“We know that Brighton like to play out from the back so we came up with a structure and it obviously worked for the first goal. We take it, however, it goes in, a goal is a goal. we wanted a goal from a set piece because we were a real threat last season.”
Iwobi is in the best goalscoring form of his career, with five goal contributions in his last four Premier League appearances (three goals and two assists).
He described his late second goal against Brighton, which sealed the win at Craven Cottage.
“It’s a gift for Fulham and the fans. It was a good pass from Antonee Robinson and it was a good finish,” the 28-year-old said.
“We see the ability in training. This performance gives us a boost going into Arsenal, who are on a good run at the moment.”
Iwobi has scored five goals and made three assists in 14 Premier League outings this season, more than his five goals and two assists he had in the whole of last season, when he played 32 times.
