Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface says he prefers to play in Spain or Germany rather than in the English Premier League.
The 23-year-old has caught the attention of a number of clubs in Europe following an impressive debut season for Bayer Leverkusen, for whom he netted 21 goals and registered 10 assists last season. A recent report disclosed that Chelsea are keen on the Super Eagles star.
He, however, said he would consider an approach from any top club in England.
“I did an interview before and I’m not just saying this because I’m in this level, I’ve been saying this even before I had an international passport, even before I dreamt of coming to Europe. I don’t really like the Premier League,” Boniface told SportyTV in a YouTube interview.
“I said this before. I rather prefer Spanish football or German football. I’m not saying for example if a good team comes for me I will not go, I’m just saying if you ask me to pick two countries I would love to play in, it would be Germany and Spain. Everybody has different priorities but for me, I love the German league.”
He also disclosed that he would like to play next in Spain, but did not reveal his preferred club.
“The top three teams. We know the three teams,” the Nigeria striker replied when pressed upon to give a clue.
Speaking on his integration in Germany, Boniface said he is not learning German but would be interested in taking Spanish classes.
On his relationship with his Leverkusen teammates, he stated: “It’s fun. People think on the internet I do a lot of things but Jeremie (Frimpong) is worse than me. Me, I post memes but you see music of Nigerian artistes like Flavour, Jeremie is in charge of that.
“So Jeremie leads I follow. We also have other Africans like Nathan (Tella), Tapsoba (Edmond) and we have Granit (Xhaka) who has played with a lot of Africans, so he knows our lifestyle. So generally, the bond is there and it’s been helping us, there is this connection around everybody.”
