Egyptian giants Zamalek have announced the appointment of former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro as their new handler.
Peseiro joined Zamalek after signing a one-and-a-half-year contract.
“Zamalek sign Portuguese Jose Peseiro as technical director of the team,” the club announced on Friday. “Welcome our new coach.”
Peseiro arrived in Cairo on Thursday to finalise the deal as he replaced Swiss coach Christian Gross who replaced another Portuguese, Jose Gomes, who left the team in November.
“Happy, honoured to represent Zamalek! And with a lot of ambition,” the 64-year-old Peseiro wrote on X in reaction to his appointment.
“The work has already begun and this is where all our focus and dedication lies.
“Making the fans proud is what we want!”
Peseiro is set to assume his new role immediately as Zamalek will host Petrojet on Sunday in a week 14 fixture of the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek are currently in third place in the leaguetable, four points behind leaders Pyramids.
This would be Peseiro’s second stint in the Egyptian League after taking charge of Zamalek’s rivals Al Ahly in the 2015-2016 season and leading them to the title.
He was appointed Super Eagles head coach in 2022 and led the team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they lost to hosts Cote d’Ivoire last February.
