After making his debut in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday night, Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has recalled how he paid N30 to watch the competition back in Nigeria as a football fan.
Boniface was in action for 62 minutes in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-0 win against Feyenoord at De Kuip in Holland. The 23-year-old, however, missed the opportunity of joining the exclusive list of Nigerians who marked their first game in the top European club competition with a goal.
After the game, the Nigeria international expressed delight over how far he has come.
“From paying 30 naira to watch Champions League football for night back then for 323 army barrack Akure to playing my first Champions League game. Proud of this moment,” he wrote in pidgin on X.
The attacker joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise last year, scoring 21 goals and registering 10 assists in all competitions in his first campaign for the club.
Boniface played a key role as Leverkusen won their first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023/2024 season, and was voted Bundesliga Rookie Of The Year.
He opened his goal account in the league this season with a brace last weekend in the club’s 4-0 thrashing of Hoffenheim. The former Bodo/Glimt star also registered an assist in the game.
