Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, has given kudos to Chris Wood as Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, battles to get some playing time.
Awoniyi lost his starting role to Wood last season following a lengthy spell on the sidelines caused by an injury. In his absence, the New Zealand international scored crucial goals to help Forest escape relegation.
This campaign also, the 32-year-old Wood has maintained his good form, scoring three goals in five league matches, including in the 2-2 draw at Brighton last weekend.
Speaking ahead of the club’s English Premier League fixture with Fulham at the City Ground on Saturday, Santo backed the former Newcastle attacker to continue to deliver goals.
“He’s a top professional and a fantastic striker. It’s not only about the goals that he scores, it’s his voice in the dressing room, what he means for the team and his team mates,” he said on Thursday.
“We are delighted, what we give is confidence, we trust him and I hope it continues. He’s a top professional and a fantastic striker.”
Awoniyi has not started a league game for the Reds this season, and has featured for only 33 minutes.
He was an unused substitute in their last two matches as they have maintained an unbeaten start to the season with two wins and three draws.
