The Flamingos of Nigeria inched closer to securing a spot in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a 4-0 victory over Algeria in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State on Saturday.
The encounter was the first leg of the final qualifying round of the global tournament, scheduled for Morocco later in the year.
Queen Joseph scored two of the Flamingos’ goals, with Zainab Raji and Amina Animashaun netting the other goals at the home of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders Remo Stars.
Joseph got the Flamingos on their way as early as the first minute with the opening goal and got her second 16 minutes later.
In between Joseph’s goals, Raji struck in the 13th minute as the Nigerian girls took a commanding 3-0 lead into half-time.
Animashaun struck in the 90th minute to make the score more comfortable for the Flamingos ahead of the second leg scheduled for Friday in Blida.
This year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place in Morocco from October 17 to November 5.
