The Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter on Sunday has was interrupted following a medical emergency for Viola midfielder Edoardo Bove.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Bove was taken to the Careggi hospital near the Stadio Franchi and was breathing autonomously, but had not yet regained consciousness.
The Lega Serie A announced that the game was abandoned and would not be resumed on Sunday.
They had stopped play at the Stadio Franchi to discuss a potential VAR check on a disallowed Lautaro Martinez goal when suddenly the former Roma midfielder went down.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Bove was bending down tying his laces when he suddenly collapsed.
There was a panicked reaction from his teammates and the Inter players, who quickly rushed the medical staff over.
They were also increasingly angry when the ambulance did not drive onto the pitch, but that might have been because the Stadio Franchi is currently undergoing restructuring work.
He was therefore rushed to the ambulance in the tunnel on a stretcher and taken away.
Fiorentina and Inter players were in tears as they waited for news, then were asked to leave the field and go back to the dressing rooms.
Bove is a 22-year-old midfielder who is a product of the Roma youth academy who joined Fiorentina on loan this summer for €1.5m with an option to buy for a further €10.5m.
