Turkish club Besiktas have confirmed the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new head coach.
This will be Solskjaer’s first coaching job since he was sacked by Manchester United in 2021.
Besiktas confirmed the appointment, writing on X “Ole, Ole, Ole” along with a photo of Solskjaer draped in a club scarf.
“Beşiktaş Futbol A.Ş. has informed the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that negotiations have begun with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the position of Technical Director of our Football A Team,” the club added on their website.
“The statement made by Beşiktaş Football Investments Industry and Trade Inc. to the Public Disclosure Platform is as follows: ‘Our company has started negotiations with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the position of Football First Team Technical Director.'”
Solskjaer replaced former Netherlands stsr Giovanni van Bronckhorst – who was sacked in December.
Solskjaer led United to a second-place finish in the English Premier League and reached the UEFA Europa League final where they lost to Villarreal on penalties.
The 51-year-old spent nine seasons with United as a player, winning six Premier League titles, FA Cups and the 1999 UEFA Champions League, when he came off the bench to score the winning goal in the final against Bayern Munich.
He has also taken charge of Cardiff City and Molde, twice winning the domestic league title with the Norwegian side.
Besiktas are currently sixth in the Turkish Super Lig with 30 points from 18 games.
