Former England international Glen Johnson has urged Chelsea to go all out to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in the summer after he failed to secure a permanent move from the Italian club.
The 25-year-old was linked with Chelsea and Al Ahli in the later part of the transfer window but neither of the clubs were able to reach an agreement with the Italian club on a fee.
The Premier League club are reportedly still interested in signing the reigning African Player of the Year and monitoring his progress at Galatasaray.
Johnson, who made 71 appearances for the Blues before joining Portsmouth in 2007, said: “Osimhen going to Galatasaray on loan was crazy. I like Nicolas Jackson a lot but as I said before I don’t know if he is a player who will score 15-20 goals.
“I think Chelsea should sign him. Signing Osimhen would also improve Jackson because he will have to fight for his place. Chelsea would be mad not to try to sign Osimhen.”
Within a few weeks of his arrival in Turkey, Osimhen has built a connection with Galatasaray fans, reminiscent of his time at Napoli, scoring three goals and providing five assists in only six matches since joining the club.
Reports in Italy have suggested that he has two clauses in his contract; conditions that could enable him leave Napoli in January and next summer as well.
