Manchester United were beaten for a third time this season by Tottenham Hotspur, who won their English Premier League clash 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
The Red Devils handed Denmark-born striker with Nigerian heritage Chido Obi-Martin his senior debut in the defeat, the 17-year-old striker coming on in stoppage time as the side’s only substitute.
Obi-Martin, who joined from Arsenal this season and has been scoring regularly for United’s youth sides, was one of several youngsters included in Ruben Amorim’s squad on Sunday due to injuries to some first team players.
James Maddison was the hero for the hosts as his 13th minute goal was enough to secure a first-ever Premier League double for Spurs over United, Tottenham having beaten United 3-0 at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture.
The midfielder fired home the rebound after Andre Onana had parried Lucas Bergvall’s initial effort.
The North London club are now unbeaten in their last six meetings with United, recording four wins, including victory in the Carabao Cup this season, and two draws.
The last time United got the better of Tottenham Hotspur was a 2-0 win in a league fixture on October 19, 2022.
Manchester United have now lost 12 of their 25 Premier League matches this season, their most defeats from their first 25 matches of a league campaign since 1973-1974 (13) – when they were last relegated from the top flight.
With Sunday’s result, Tottenham moved above Manchester United to 12th in the league table, with the Red Devils 15th.
