Alex Iwobi was on target for Fulham on Saturday but it was all in vain as they were thumped 4-1 at home by Wolverhampton Wanderers in their English Premier League clash.
Also on Saturday, Arsenal returned to winning ways as teenager with Nigerian heritage, Ethan Nwaneri, scored his first-ever Premier League goal in the 3-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest, who had Super Eagles stars Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina in their starting line-up.
At Craven Cottage, Iwobi opened the scoring with a spectacular strike in the 20th minute, curling home with his weaker left foot from outside the box.
Wolves however responded ruthlessly, Matheus Cunha scoring twice and Joao Gomez and substitute Goncalo Guedes also netting to turn the game around and earn a second consecutive victory.
With the result, Fulham slipped to ninth in the standings, while Wolves moved out of the relegation zone to 17th.
Nwaneri’s goal was the icing on the cake for a dominant Arsenal side, the 17-year-old coming on in the 82nd minute and netting four minutes later to make history.
At 17 years and 247 days old, Nwaneri became Arsenal’s second youngest Premier League goalscorer, behind only Cesc Fàbregas against Blackburn in August 2004 (17 years 113 days), according to Opta Statistics.
Before Nwaneri’s strike, Bukayo Saka had given a resurgent Arsenal the lead with a fine finish in the 15th minute.
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey doubled the Gunners’ advantage seven minutes after the break to take Mikel Arteta’s side back to fourth in the table, three points and two places above Forest.
In the other afternoon kick-offs in the Premier League on Saturday, Aston Villa scored late to rescue a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace, Brighton won 2-1 at Bournemouth and Everton were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Brentford.
