Super Eagles stars Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu got the goals that earned struggling Southampton a 2-1 win at Ipswich in Saturday’s English Premier League clash.
It was Aribo’s third goal in 23 league appearances while Onuachu bagged his second in 14 games in the English top flight this season.
Southampton went into the game on the back of six straight league defeats but took the lead through Aribo in the 21st minute before Liam Delap equalised for Ipswich 10 minutes later.
With three minutes left of regulation time, Onuachu struck what proved to be the winner for the relegation-threatened Saints.
Despite the win, Southampton are still bottom of the table, eight points from safety.
At the Vitality Stadium, Liverpool defeated high-flying Bournemouth 2-0 thanks to a Mohamed Salah double.
Liverpool have now gone 19 games unbeaten in the Premier League.
Also Arne Slot’s men ended Bournemouth’s club record 11-match unbeaten run in the top flight.
The win means leaders Liverpool are nine points clear of Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, who are tied on 47 points.
Salah opened the scoring for the Reds in the 30th minute from the penalty spot before adding the second goal on 75 minutes.
In other Premier League fixtures on Saturday Fulham, with Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey in action, beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St. James’ Park, and Everton made it three straight league wins after hammering Leicester City 4-0 at Goodison Park.
RESULTS:
Bournemouth 0-2 Liverpool
Ipswich 1-2 Southampton
Everton 4-0 Leicester
Newcastle 1-2 Fulham
